Hotel 1898 occupies the former headquarters of the General Philippines Tobacco Company on La Rambla, a building erected in 1881 as the residence of the Marquis of Comillas and restored by Grup Núñez i Navarro as a colonial-style hotel. It stands next to the Boqueria market, a few steps from Plaça de Catalunya, the Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. The rooms are decorated in colonial style, from Classic rooms facing the interior patio and Superior rooms looking onto La Rambla to Deluxe rooms with private terraces on the fifth floor and the Junior and Colonial Suites. On the rooftop, a pool with sun loungers looks out over the Barcelona skyline, with tapas and cocktails served on the terrace. In the vaults of a former coal bunker, the spa has a thermal circuit and an indoor pool, and there is also a fitness room.
