Hotel Rural Las Calas is a 17th-century manor house in the hamlet of La Lechuza, about three kilometres from Vega de San Mateo on the road to Tejeda, in the green heart of Gran Canaria. Rescued from oblivion, it has been carefully restored with respect for every element of the area's traditional architecture, as an alternative to the island's conventional tourist hotels. Its rooms come in three types, double (Standard and Standard Plus), Junior Suite and Suite, each with its own design that combines minimalist touches with antique island furniture and Arabic influences. The doubles have high ceilings and look onto the central garden, the two Junior Suites stand apart with a small garden and terrace, and attic family rooms sleep up to four. The Suite, on the second floor of the main building, is the star of the house, with a hall, living room, bedroom and its original tea-wood ceilings and floor. Breakfast is included, and a swimming pool with sun loungers lies in the garden among palms and old trees.
