About this hotel
Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel is a five-star Grand Luxury hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and, since its inauguration in 1890, the oldest hotel in the Canary Islands and a reference point for the social and cultural life of the city. Designed by the architect James M. MacLaren and rebuilt in 1923 by Miguel Martín-Fernández de la Torre, who preserved its English colonial style, the building is part of the architectural and cultural heritage of the Canarian capital. Over the decades it has welcomed illustrious visitors such as Maria Callas and guests such as Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner, and it still hosts literary and artistic events as well as the Santa Catalina Classics festival every year. Reopened in 2019 by the Barceló group after a careful refurbishment, it combines its original British style with works of art, murals and nineteenth-century canvases and elegant, welcoming rooms. The hotel stands in the lush Doramas Park in the residential Ciudad Jardín quarter, surrounded by palm trees, dragon trees and Canarian flora, and close to Las Canteras beach. With its history, its setting and its refined service, Santa Catalina is a unique choice for travellers who want to experience Las Palmas in style.
