Ibiza West
Ibiza West is centred around the lively resort town of Sant Antoni de Portmany, the island's second-largest settlement and the undisputed capital of Ibiza's legendary sunset-watching culture. This region encompasses the entire western coastline from the bustling nightlife hub of San Antonio and its surrounding bay, through the laid-back beach resorts of Port des Torrent and Cala Tarida, to the hidden coves of Cala Vadella and the dramatic clifftop scenery around Cap Blanc and Cala Comte. Sant Antoni's famous Sunset Strip — a row of bars and cafes overlooking the bay where thousands gather each evening to watch the sun sink into the Mediterranean — has been one of Ibiza's most iconic experiences since the legendary Cafe del Mar opened its doors in 1980. The bay of San Antonio is the largest natural harbour on the island's west coast, sheltering a wide sandy beach and a promenade lined with hotels, restaurants, shops and water sports operators that make it one of the most complete resort areas on Ibiza. Inland, the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia encompasses the island's highest peak at 475 metres and a landscape of pine forests, ancient fincas and rural roads that connect to some of Ibiza's most beautiful and unspoilt beaches accessible only by dirt track. Cala Comte, regularly voted one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, offers crystal-clear turquoise waters and views across to the rocky islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell that rise dramatically from the sea like natural cathedrals. The west coast catches the afternoon and evening sun, making it the warmest part of the island in the late afternoon and creating the golden light conditions that have made Ibiza's sunsets famous worldwide. The village of San Rafael, situated on the road between San Antonio and Ibiza Town, is designated a UNESCO zone of artisan interest for its traditional pottery workshops that have operated for centuries. Whether seeking sunset cocktails, family beach days, hidden cove adventures or rural exploration through the island's agricultural heartland, Ibiza West offers the perfect blend of entertainment, natural beauty and authentic island character.
