Icod de los Vinos is a historic municipality on the northwest coast of Tenerife whose evocative name fuses its indigenous Guanche heritage, with Icod relating to fire in the ancient language, and its Castilian winemaking legacy that has defined the town since the sixteenth century. The undisputed star of the town is the Drago Milenario, an awe-inspiring dragon tree standing nearly 20 metres tall and estimated to be between 500 and 800 years old, declared a National Monument in 1917 and revered as a living symbol of Canarian biodiversity whose legendary red sap, known as Dragon's Blood, has been attributed with healing properties since antiquity.
