Hotel Rural El Refugio is an adults-only country hotel at Cruz de Tejeda, the heart of Gran Canaria, set in the Nublo Rural Park. The building follows the model of a typical 19th-century Canarian manor house. It lies among the island's Sacred Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and gives direct access to more than three hundred old royal paths. Rooms are bright and cosy, from double and twin rooms to the garden suite, the largest and most independent room in the hotel, and attic rooms for hikers passing through. The common areas include a heated pool, lounges and wide terraces with mountain views, and the restaurant serves Canarian cooking. Cruz de Tejeda is where the second stage of the Gran Canaria Camino de Santiago ends, and pilgrims can stamp their credentials here.
