El Cotillo
El Cotillo is a tranquil fishing village on the northwestern coast of Fuerteventura, part of the La Oliva municipality and largely untouched by mass tourism. The village is centred around a small working harbour lined with seafood restaurants and bars, preserving the traditional character of whitewashed Canarian houses. To the north, the sheltered lagoons of Playa de la Concha offer calm, turquoise waters ideal for families and snorkelling, while the southern beaches such as Piedra Playa attract surfers and kitesurfers with consistent Atlantic swells. The historic Torre del Toston, a fortified watchtower built in 1743 to guard against pirate raids, stands on the headland overlooking the coast. El Cotillo sits within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the surrounding landscape of volcanic rock, sand dunes, and sparse vegetation is characteristic of Fuerteventura's arid natural beauty. Local dining focuses on fresh fish and Canarian cuisine, with waterfront restaurants offering sunset views over the open Atlantic. The village is approximately 20 kilometres south of Corralejo and 40 kilometres from Fuerteventura Airport, making it accessible while remaining one of the island's quietest resort alternatives.
