Cala de Sant Vicent

Cala de Sant Vicent lies on the north-eastern coast of Ibiza, in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, about forty minutes by road from Ibiza Town and the airport. It is one of the widest bays on the island, a broad arc of fine golden sand that shelves into shallow, exceptionally clear water. Pine-covered ridges close the cove on three sides, and the headland of Sa Talaia rises to 303 metres directly above it. That setting keeps the resort quiet and unhurried, which makes it a deliberate alternative to the club strips of the south. A palm-lined promenade runs the length of the sand, with restaurants, beach bars and small shops facing the water. Sun loungers, parasols, showers and summer lifeguards are all in place, and pedalos, kayaks and beach volleyball are available through the season. The sheltered shore and the absence of through traffic make it one of the most family-friendly beaches in northern Ibiza. In the hills above the bay is the Cova des Culleram, the Punic sanctuary of the goddess Tanit, in use from roughly the fifth to the second century BC. Excavations that began in 1907 recovered hundreds of votive figures there, now displayed in the Archaeological Museum in Ibiza Town. The village of Sant Vicent de sa Cala sits three kilometres inland, and the islet of Tagomago is visible offshore from the viewpoint on the descent road.
