Costa de Antigua, also known as Nuevo Horizonte, is a quiet residential and holiday urbanisation on the eastern coast of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of Antigua. It sits immediately north of the larger resort of Caleta de Fuste and roughly ten minutes by car from Fuerteventura Airport, making it one of the most easily reached corners of the island. The settlement grew out of an ambitious late-1980s development plan intended to extend El Castillo along the coast, and much of its low-rise apartment architecture dates from the building boom of the 1990s and early 2000s. That expansion stalled after the financial crisis, leaving whole streets of unfinished estates that the area has only gradually reclaimed and reoccupied. The result today is an unusually calm, spread-out resort with wide avenues, gardens and open volcanic plots rather than the dense promenades found elsewhere on Fuerteventura. Costa de Antigua has no beach of its own — its shoreline is rocky and exposed — but a paved coastal promenade of about 2.5 kilometres links it directly to the golden, sheltered sands of Playa del Castillo. That walk along the low cliffs is the local highlight, with open sea views, Barbary ground squirrels along the path and a level surface suitable for families and cyclists. Within the urbanisation there are supermarkets, a bakery and a handful of bars and restaurants, so most visitors head into Caleta de Fuste for the marina, shopping centres, golf courses and evening entertainment. Diving, snorkelling and windsurfing operators along this stretch of coast make the most of the calm, shallow bay in front of El Castillo. Inland, the historic town of Antigua with its restored windmill and craft centre, and the salt-pan museum at Las Salinas del Carmen to the south, make easy half-day excursions from the resort.
