El Pajar
El Pajar is a small coastal village in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the south-west coast of Gran Canaria between Pasito Blanco and Arguineguín. Its history is linked to the cement works that employed local people for decades and to a small fishing port that is still in use. The beach of Santa Águeda has calm, shallow water that is well suited to small children, sheltered between a natural rock wall and the cement works' port. Divers and snorkellers explore the wreck of the Meteor II, a 17 m Russian hydrofoil lying close to the shore. Canoes and stand-up paddleboards can be rented on the beach, and seafood restaurants line the small promenade. The cave chapel of Santa Águeda stands nearby and is linked to the village's patron saint. The patron saint festivities in April include an offering procession with decorated carts, fireworks and a fish roast on the closing day. The village is signposted from the GC-1 motorway, with parking within walking distance of the beach. Arguineguín, Meloneras and the Maspalomas Dunes are only a short drive away.
