Playa del Cura is a small, quiet resort in the municipality of Mogán, on the sunny south-west coast of Gran Canaria. It lies between Amadores and Puerto Rico to the east and Tauro, Taurito and Puerto de Mogán to the west. The resort is built around a natural beach of dark volcanic sand with calm water. The central part of the beach has the softest sand and the easiest way into the sea, while both ends are rockier. Sun loungers are available and a lifeguard watches over the beach. Because the sand is dark rather than golden, the beach is rarely crowded, and it looks at its best at sunset. Hotels and apartment complexes sit in gardens on the slopes behind the shore. A supermarket and a few bars are clustered around the roundabout just up from the beach. The coastal road GC-500 and Global bus lines connect Playa del Cura with Puerto Rico, about 5 km away, and the rest of the south. It suits couples and travellers who prefer a calm base over a busy resort.
