Puerto Naos

Puerto Naos is a seaside village on the west coast of La Palma, part of the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane and home to about 930 people. It grew from the coastal strip known as "la marina", where landless banana workers settled and lived from fishing and the plantations that still surround the village. From the 1980s it turned into a place of holiday homes and tourism, above all after its first large beach hotel opened in 1990. Its beach of dark volcanic sand and gravel runs for about 400 metres, with good bathing, moderate waves and a promenade shaded by palm trees. Paragliders land on the beach after flying down from the slopes above, and diving and seafood restaurants complete what the village offers. In September 2021 the Cumbre Vieja eruption forced the evacuation of Puerto Naos, and the lava cut the road through Todoque that led to it. Volcanic gases kept the village closed for almost three years, until free access to the beach and most homes returned in June 2024. Since then homes, shops and hotels have reopened step by step, and summer 2025 was the first season close to normal. The sun sets straight over the Atlantic, and the coast to the south leads to the small beaches of El Remo and Charco Verde. Puerto Naos suits travellers who want a quiet beach village, about ten kilometres from Los Llanos de Aridane and some forty from the airport.
